The gooseberry is belongs to the species of Ribes. The plant originates from Europe, Northwestern Africa, and West, South and Southeast Asia. The gooseberry is also sparsely habituated in various location in North America.
The rambling gooseberry bush grows up to 1,5 metres (5 feet) high and wide and its fruit, the berries, are mostly green, but there are also red (varying to purple), yellow and white varieties. The wild berries are smaller than cultivated kinds, but do have a nice flavour.
Nowadays, gooseberries are produced both on a commercial and domestic scale.
