The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations defines food security as “ a condition within which all people have access to adequate and safe food at all times in order to meet their dietary needs to enable them to lead a healthy and active life.” According to a 2017 study, nearly 20% of SA households, a total of 6,8 million individuals, experience inadequate access to food. Agriculture is core to every person’s story, mother, father, child, commercial or emerging farmer. An increase in the involvement of households in agricultural activities for subsistence farming purposes has the potential to significantly reduce food insecurity in rural and urban households.

In our quest to help growers big and small become Partners with Nature, we are partnering with Laeveld Agrochem to showcase the potential, and discuss the challenges, of starting a home vegetable garden. Using their Summer Home Garden Starter pack and guiding you in the use of biological control, we are sharing the journey from seed to harvest. Join us and start your own veggie garden, because we know that big impact starts small! Every person that grows their own food is contributing towards the greater food security of our beautiful country.
